I am feeling a bit down this weekend because I am awaiting the results of a CT scan of my lungs, which was done this past week. I've got an I can't be arsed mood from it this Saturday. I was supposed to finish an essay, but instead, I am posting this video of Harry Leslie Smith on ITV's Calendar program where at the age of 92, he visited his childhood home in Barnsley. I remember that shoot and how upsetting it was for my dad to dredge up those memories of long ago. He did it because he knew it was important to document to the 21st century what life was like before public healthcare and the welfare state for the many. Take it from Harry Leslie Smith; it was a short, brutal and shit life.
In 2023, we are losing our struggle to preserve democracy where all lead lives of dignity, good health and plenty to neoliberalism and fascism. We must fight harder if we don't want to return to the darkness because this time, the 1% will ensure the lights never go back on for the likes of us.
