The West is deep into the weeds of wars Israel conducts against Iran, Lebanon and Syria because they benefit our imperialism and theirs. Short or long-term, our support of these wars is catastrophic for world stability and what’s left of our democracies. Western governments' gleeful entanglement in Israel’s genocide against Palestinians is because the entitled who run things in the West believe that the mass death of a civilian population has long-term benefits for the maintenance of their wealth and power.
These wars and the genocide can only end if Israel is defeated militarily and politically. But it can’t be beaten to the edge of annihilation because, unlike Hitler’s Germany, Netanyahu's regime has nuclear weapons and isn’t afraid to use them. Moreover, Western governments will not be the ones that stop Israel from its reign of terror.
We won't stop them not because our leadership is subservient to Israel because they aren't. Our governments aren't naive to Israel’s plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza of Palestinians. The West doesn’t fear Israel, although some individual politicians or journalists may be concerned by the kompromat collected by Mossad on them. The West, however, does fear the collapse of Israel in the mideast because it is used to police the USA's hegemony in the region.
But a factory default setting theory that the genocide continues because Israel has collected a vast array of Kompromat that could destroy politicians is more about letting the West off the hook of its wholehearted embrace of evil.
The world for the last two years has been awash with horrifying videos and photos of Palestinians being blown up, starved and murdered by Israel. Yet the genocide continues. Politicians are not shamed by it, nor are they voted out of office for their support of it.
Yet, somehow people think the "alleged" Epstein files contain kompromat so shocking Trump's Presidency would collapse or that without these alleged photos dangling above him, he would stop the genocide.
This genocide is endorsed and aided by Western politicians because they are cynical, corrupt, unimaginative technocrats- much like the Nazis, who prepared the way for Germany’s Final Solution.
Besides, Israel’s genocide is a good earner for the defence industry in every G7 country, both as a supplier to Israel of weapons of annihilation and to keep their own national armed forces prepared against phantom attacks from either Russia or the "sleeper cells" of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
There is no going back for the West. The International Rules Base System built after WW2 by the West is as dead to this world in 2025 as the divine right of Kings was to revolutionary Russia in 1918.
Once Donald Trump illegally bombed Iran’s Nuclear sites, he confirmed America was done with diplomacy the way the 1930s dispensed with the League of Nations and international diplomacy after Mussolini invaded Abyssinia.
The only diplomacy Trump will now employ is either gunboat diplomacy or diplomacy as deception before an actual war. Since there was no pushback by his allies domestic or foreign after he bombed Iran, Trump is like a tiger who has tasted human blood. The American President’s lust for mayhem and regime change was whetted rather than sated. Who will he bomb next, Cuba, Panama or perhaps Greenland? I know it won't be Canada because this country is learning how to be Vichy France from Mark Carney. How many Rubicons can Trump cross before everyone gets it? He and the 1% made a desert of our world and called it peace.
The West isn’t at a crossroads for its society. We are at our Golgotha. We can only hope, whatever new empire is formed from the ruins of America. They show more mercy to us than we ever showed to our vanquished, poor, and vulnerable. But we shouldn't expect it because we don't deserve it.
There are five days before rent day and it’s a small SOS because 5 new subscribers will put me over the line.
Your support keeps me housed and allows me to preserve the legacy of Harry Leslie Smith. Your subscriptions are crucial to my personal survival because like so many others who struggle to keep afloat, my survival is a precarious daily undertaking. The fight to keep going was made worse- thanks to getting cancer along with lung disease and other comorbidities which makes life more difficult to combat in these cost-of-living crisis times. I promise the content is good, relevant and thoughtful. But if you can’t it is all good too because we are in the same boat. Take Care, John
Mark Carney turning Canada into America’s Vichy is such an apt description. Thanks John. It’s going to be a frustrating four years watching Carnet kiss American ass while pretending to decouple.
It's far more likely that AIPAC dollars vs kompromat is the motivating factor...it's certainly true for US politicians on both sides of the purported aisle.
As to Trump's appetite for further bombings, based on multiple sources and the leaked intelligence assessment, the raid failed to destroy Iranian facilities. At most, Iran's nuclear capabilities have been set back by a few months.
The reality will be a secretive proliferation of nuclear weapons across the globe now that countries clearly understand it's their sole method of protection against invasions or raids.
Trump's biggest fear has always been nuclear weapons...now he's the trigger for their massive growth.
