When Empires unspool their wrath is terrifying. America in 2025 will be unhinged by hate.

I don't know about you, but this current political/economic timeline doesn't feel as if it will end with a happy-ever-after scenario. We live in an empire with advancing political necrosis, which is how we became trapped in facilitating and justifying Israel's genocide against Palestinians. It's a death loop. Israel's democracy won't survive it, and what little remains of ours is doomed as well.

It's a foregone conclusion nothing can be the same again for ordinary citizens. The past nine months of 2024 are vomit-stained from history repeating all over us.

For decades, we were taught the USA was different from all empires because its power came from its ability to wield justice fairly. It was bullshit. But sometimes, people, even me, pretended that "America was trying to do its best."

But the USA, over the years, pawned its moral justification one too many times in dirty wars and corporate imperialism. When a shill for the empire speaks of "rule of law," it is said so cynically that they aren't even bothering to convince you.

They don't have to because it is no longer about believing the moral arc of America bends towards the light of goodness. It's about making citizens and strangers alike believe, that America's wrath will extend to you if you defy them even in the smallest possible way.

An average citizen in the USA or one of its vassal states has about as much existential freedom as a citizen of China or Russia.

I'd be terrified by it all if I wasn't so exhausted from the effort it takes to survive in this world. I swing between bouts of shame and feelings of worthlessness because the day in and day-out of human existence is often overwhelming.

This week, I was compelled to reschedule a colonoscopy to examine me for cancer reoccurrence because the cost to travel to it wasn't financially viable.

I will have the colonoscopy done next month. I don't believe I have caused myself any serious harm by this change in appointments. But perhaps the next medical appointment or procedure, I must postpone will be like in a game of Russian roulette- where the chamber is loaded with a bullet.

In 2024, everyone is confronted by political chaos, vindictive ideologues and potential violence against them by a state that will not tolerate dissent against the war in Ukraine and their enablement of genocide against the Palestinians.

The political and economic ground we stand on is not stable. The shifting is far worse than in the 1930s because left-wing politics in Western societies was destroyed or corrupted by neoliberalism.

There is no socialist solution to any of our problems because the corporate news media spent the last four decades discrediting economics and politics that worked for the many rather than the few.

You can't trust the majority of those who earn an above-average salary to have society's best interest at heart. Anyone with a high income no matter their occupation should be viewed as if they are a colonial administrator for neoliberalism.

Even if they say "Yes things must change." Their essential roles are to oppress, maintain the status quo and prevent a fairer society. There are a few outliers like there were during the days of the British Empire. But the majority are happy to man the castle walls for the 1% lest they lose the perks from a better-than-average income.

Every day there is a barrage of racism against refugees and migrants that is being stoked by politicians on the right and centre. The bigotry against newcomers is so outlandish we might as well be living in the 19th century when the majority of people left their schooling behind at the age of twelve. This almost universal intolerance to "non-white" refugees and migrants in the nations of the West is a clear indication that our societies are as propagandised as North Korea when it comes to manufacturing xenophobia to assert control over a population made unruly by inequality.

The only way this ends for the West is full-on fascism- where we either murder or enslave everyone outside of our neoliberal borders. And what is in it for us? Consumer debt, subscriptions, private healthcare, low wages, and a 24/7 entertainment culture whose job is to lull us into subservience. What is unspooling now is moving at such a rapid pace, that it is possible that by 2025, the world will be in a World War.
