John, you shocked me with this item by predicting the demise of Canada’s Medicare in 18 months. It’s pretty obvious Starmer’s Labour government is going to do Medicare in there in short order. But, in Canada? Quickly, however, I mentally reviewed what is happening in the provinces. At least 8 out of 10 Premiers are extremists on the right of the political spectrum and they have been doing everything that would not cause a public revolt to undermine Medicare. They now have the power and the majority so it is likely they will bury publicly provided health care before their terms end. I knew they were headed in this direction - who could not know - but I wasn’t thinking of a timeline. I think you are right, 18 months (approximately) will give them enough time to make irreversible changes. Neoliberalism, capitalism in its dying stages is a nasty, ruthless, viscous thing. I had hoped I would be gone by the time the fascists had their way, but it looks as if I may be around to see the final and open melding of corporations and the state (as. Mussolini defined fascism).
Yet people voted for this. A substantial section of the British public likes the idea of having something that others can't afford, so they can w*** around feeling superior. That's the society we're in. We modelled ourselves on the USA and here we are.

I know it just unbelievable what is happening and the speed of it.
