Thanks for reminding us all of the horrific consequences of Capitalism through your family’s story. Just as Marx predicted, the alienation by brutal competition has rendered any attempt of a humane society near impossible. The 1%, and the sycophantic enablers (20%), have stolen our energy in order to create worldwide destabilization and sociopathic behavior as the norm. I say near impossible because the majority of us are not blind to these machinations. Which is why they have given up on psychological programming, and have moved to straight up killing.
Mr Stacy, I agree with much of what you say, but the psychological operations continue to be essential. Without psyops, the 1% would not be able to continue to destroy society and democracy. More and more people are waking up but we are still a long way from the tipping point.
Yes Jill, the psychological ops continue, and yes, they will always continue to accompany the usual culling mechanisms-control of food production, health care options, education, policing, etc-in order to control the narrative. But they have moved on from the old ways of using state power to put down dissent-using the police, military, and organized crime forces to intimidate and murder the people in small groups. Now it’s straight up genocide.
Fair enough with regard to the “isms”. I would say I agree in general with Mr. Monbiot—I’ve only listened to him by way of a few YouTube, Guardian and Extinction Rebellion, videos—on the topic of economics that you mention, but I except for different reasons. I will seek the book you mention. And of course, the concept of the commons is essential.
As Albert Einstein said, "Blind belief in authority is the greatest enemy of the truth." The Covid "pandemic" has shown how they use fear to control people, and how easy it would be to get to the stage where people will inform on neighbours, friends, and even family members.
Jill, yes, fear is used as a control mechanism. But what creates the fear? Capitalism creates chaos which makes people fearful, and vulnerable to disinformation and misinformation. Are we arguing or agreeing with each other? I can’t tell. 🙂
Mostly agreeing, I think, John, but all the "isms" can create fear, disinformation and misinformation, and leave people feeling insecure. Although I don't trust him, I agree with George Monbiot when he says that the market cannot meet all our needs, nor can the state, nor can a combination of the two. He explains that one element conspicuously absent from both economic models and most dominant ideologies is the commons. Thriving commons are, he believes, crucial components of a politics of belonging. His book "Out of the Wreckage" is well worth reading.
