So true. It is almost unreal the way this government follow their own rules without an ounce of intelligence.
The country feels completely broken and the people feel helpless and despondent. Revolution hasn't really been a serious option for years, but it feels that this is the aim of our fascist government. They can then bring in the jackboots to stamp on anyone with a mind of their own. However, people are changing and we might just surprise our psychotic leaders. Many of us are biding our time until the moment is right, and we will act, when necessary, in a way the establishment cannot predict
I am pretty new to this blog. Is there a way or could one be made to easily read your father's writing from the beginning in chronological order? Thanks.
It is hard to find comfort when we look at what is happening in Gaza, Yemen, Syria, and all the way back to the despondent, stripped of their dignity, masses on our own doorstep. There is literally no getting away from the scenes that greet us each day.
But men, such as your father, and millions like him, fought to protect us from fascists. We owe it to them to refuse to live in fear.
To be as non conformist towards the measures coming our way as possible.
You are 1000% wrong. The answer is don’t start wars. Hamas invaded Israel on October 7 with a savage barbarity. Hamas is going to be destroyed. It does not protect anyone there. If you’ve seen the videos of the tunnels under Shifa you’ll know where all the money went. The word tunnel doesn’t describe the nice bathroom. The lighting. The air conditioning.
Oh and did I forget the orgiastic sexual violence of Hamas against Israeli women?
Thank you for your sane criticism of the mass murder being waged by Israel in Gaza and soon the West Bank. I am horrified that this absolute destruction and cruelty is so unflinchingly supported by the US, UK and German governments. Even on Substack this humanitarian point of view is shockingly muted.
Mr. Smith. I'm a little older than you perhaps not as wise. I didn't seek my father's council. We seldom really talked. He was born in 1919 and lived through much of what your father described only on the US side of the pond. His family lost their dairy and they became share cropers on the land they once owned. They ate the same food they raised for the dairy cattle. At least they had something to eat. Many hard years and then WWII saved them from poverty. Eleven kids, the boys went to some sort of service, the girls to support them. That's about all I learned from him about his life in those days. Except how they could enjoy simple things. They all were scared by the great Republican depression. Some became mean to the less privileged . My father believed because they were frightened by the fear of becoming like them.
We are headed back that way. The downward slide began here with Lyndon Johnson's murder of Jack Kennedy and amped up triple time with Ronald Reagan and his war on the middle class and mentally ill. Soon the bubble will burst. If not with the election of Trump, then something else. There are too many of them. The morbidly rich, the monopolists, the fascists. Not just in our countries but all over the world. I'm old and sick. Maybe I will, maybe I won't live to see our way of life end, but I have two sons who will. May God have mercy.
There is no reason to believe that the liberal promoter of the Great Society was involved in killing JFK. If Johnson had not escalated the war he would have been considered a great president of the people. Reagan WAS the beginning of the slide.
You have no reason to assume the worst outcome. I think young people are utterly pissed off with their boomer bastardry ‘leaders’ and can see the game of despotic capitalism right in front of them. Whether they rise up or skedaddle is up to their capacity to communicate directly and truthfully. We have such confidence in the past when we survived horrors
